The Cabernet portion of this wine came from two very unique vineyards. The first is located in the real ‘Dress Circle’ of Margaret River viticulture in the heart of the Wilyabrup sub-region. Harsh, gravelly soils and a gently north facing slope lead to ideal conditions for Cabernet ripening where flavours are maximised, tannins ripen fully yet sugar levels (and in due course alcohol levels) do not get out of hand.
The 2015 Rosso is a unique blend which I have created as a step up to my more structured Cabernet based wines. As with all of my wines I wanted to create something elegant and delicate yet still complex with a long and persistant palate. No rough edges, not too light yet not over-baring, a wine for drinking and enjoying yet cellaring if you feel like it – these thoughts were with me when I was conceptualising this wine.
This wine is inspired by the early release Langhe Nebbiolo and Nebbiolo d’Alba produced in the Barolo and Barbaresco zones of Italy. These two areas of stunningly beautiful vine covered slopes, pockets of wild forest and hilltop towns are often covered in a thick fog – or Nebbia in Italian. One line of thought is that this is the root of the name for the famous Nebbiolo grape, and it is also the inspiration for the name of this wine.
